Sun 25th April - Day 9, near Boscastle to Maer (15 miles)

Crackington Haven
I left at 07:30, it was sunny with early morning haze. Although the first couple of miles today was on some of the highest cliffs they were not vertical, having long slopes down to the sea.

Going through the small village of Crackington Haven I climbed steeply back up the cliffs, which were more vertical now and after another mile I had a very steep descent at Lower Tresmorn with the steps seeming to disappear over the cliff.

Looking N from Millook Common
After following the side of a small wooded section I had my sandwiches on the cliff top at Millook Common at 12:00 having done 8 miles. There hadn’t many people on this stretch of coast but one couple I met did say they would send a donation to Age Concern.

The afternoon session looked fairly easy with a gradual descent to Widemouth Bay, arriving at 14:00, it was very busy here with seaside tourists.

Bude
I got to Bude at 15:45 but I couldn’t find any grocery shops open, I wouldn't pass any shops tomorrow so I had to get stocked up today.

After treating myself to chicken and chips, I found a Spar shop open, got some more provisions before moving on to the campsite at Maer, just a mile north of Bude.

Today had been a fairly painless but slow 15 miles.

The campsites on the next stretch are at 12 and 25 miles, so it will be a short day unless I camp on the cliff again.

One thing about providing daily updates on the web site is that it is forcing my dad to use the internet so my mother can keep an eye on me!

132 miles completed.
