Thu 27th May - Day 41, Baldersdale to Cow Green Resr (18 miles)

Looking south back over Baldersdale
This morning I rose to frost on the flysheet and ground. I have not been sleeping so comfortably the last 3 nights, since my new inflatable rollmat no longer stays inflated - I guess the lifetime warranty label doesn't cover punctures!! It will be a while before I pass a camping shop.

With no campsite to aim for and a large area of high hills to cross tomorrow I was just going to be walking 18 miles today so I had a later start of 08:00, in the sun again.

Low Force, River Tees
I called into Middleton-in-Teesdale to get enough supplies for 2 days, it is always a shock to the system picking up the rucsac when I have just filled it with shopping.

The rest of the days walk was along the River Tees, it was very picturesque with the trees and the waterfalls. Shortly after passing Low Force waterfall a stoat ran out in front of me carrying something in it's mouth.
I met a group of children and their teachers, from Cheveley Park Primary School, out on a day trip, they all wanted a go at lifting the rucsac.

High Force, River Tees
After passing High Force waterfall the terrain gradually became more open and rougher, the path over the last 3 miles was quite often stoney and boulder strewn, not my favourite walking conditions.

Camping at Cauldron Snout, Cow Green Resr
I stopped for the day just below Cow Green Reservoir at Cauldron Snout waterfall.

The sun had been out all day and it looks like being a cold night again. It is a pity about this rollmat!

698 miles completed.
