Tue 1st June - Day 46, Corse Slack (N of the Border) to Melrose (25 miles)

Dere Street - Roman Rd near Pennymuir
Because I was camped in mature trees it was fairly dark and I never realised the light had changed until I looked at my watch at 06:00, I had no time to hang around so it was a couple of cereal bars for breakfast and I didn't bother boiling any water for a drink of tea.

It was a misty start to the day, getting down to the farm at Nether Hindhope I walked along the minor road for 3 miles to pick up a path on the Roman Road, Dere Street, at Pennymuir.

This was to be 15 miles to St Boswells, I was expecting this to be boring, judging by the straight line route, but it was a very pleasant walk, in spite of the rain which started at 10:30 and lasted until 16:30.

After 3 miles the roman road became incorporated into St Cuthberts Way, the route was well signposted and I met quite a few walkers on it.

Crossing over the River Teviot at Monteviot Ho I stopped at the visitor centre, it was 13:15 I had already had my lunch but as there was a snack bar there I had some scones and a pot of tea.

A mile before St Boswells the St Cuthberts Way turned off the roman road to get to the River Tweed but I carried on straight into St Boswells.

I went down to the River Tweed here and followed a bit more of St Cuthberts Way along the river to get to Newtown St Boswells where I took the Cycle Network along the minor road to get to Melrose for 17:45.
The campsite here had a laundry which I was badly needing.

The blister I picked up yesterday made todays 25 miles quite painful.

803 miles completed.
