Tue 11th May - Day 25, Pandy to Hay-on-Wye (17 miles)

Trig Point on Black Mt (552m)
I left Pandy at 07:30 in mist & light rain, but it soon stopped, and began the 11 mile climb, initially through farmland, up onto the hill.

It was steep up until the first peak, marked by a trig point at 464m, I had a short break here.

Dave on Black Mt (637m)
From here it was now a series of long easy inclines to each higher peak, the highest being at the end of the wide ridge.

The cloud level was down at 500m so I didn't have any view but it was still good to be up here.

I stopped for my second break on the sixth peak at 10:45, the cloud was lifting & the sun coming out. I met a couple of walkers here who were planning a walk for a rambling club at the weekend.

Looking N on Black Mt from highest point 703m
A bit further on I met a backpacker who had already walked the 177 miles to the end then turned round & was walking back again, he told me he always likes to walk about 400 miles at this time of year.

Looking NW to Hay-on-Wye
I reached the highest peak at 13:30 & then began the 6 mile descent into Hay-on-Wye, a busy small town in which every other shop is a book shop.

Radnors End Campsite was just outside the town, over the river, and the tent was pitched by 16:00.

There had been thunder as I was coming into Hay-on-Wye and there was light rain after I had the tent up.
It was an evening of thunder & lightening and heavy rain.

399 miles completed.
