Sun 6th June - Day 51, South Queensferry to Tillicoultry (25 miles)

Forth Rd Bridge from S Queensferry
I had done a big shopping last night as I was out of just about everything and I had to allow for 2 days with no shops, so before I left this morning I weighed the rucsac and got a shock when the scales displayed 54 lbs!

Determined to reach the Ochills I left at 07:15 to a similar day to yesterday, cloudy with occasional sunny breaks.

Crossing over the Forth Road Bridge I dropped down onto the B981 then took the minor road into Rosyth. A footpath led to the A985 where I took another minor road into Dunfermline.

After 8 miles of road walking I was looking forward to the 11 miles of path/cycleway along the dismantled railway line to get me to Clackmannan.

Looking over Gartmorn Dam to the Ochils
Unfortunately it was tarmac all the way, it might be okay for the cyclists but for a walker it was particularly boring being straight and flat. I took to walking on the rough grass on the sides just to break the monotony, at least I had to look to watch where I was puuting my feet.

I was really feeling the weight of the rucsac so I was stopping every hour to eat something to reduce the weight !!

After lunch I felt very tired and I had trouble keeing my eyes open while I was walking so I took extra breaks, the tiredness passed after a while.

Just before I reached Clackmannan I turned off the cycleway and took a footpath to Gartmorn Dam,

Ben Cleuch, Ochils
A further 3 miles on track and minor road saw me at Tillicoultry just before 17:00. I had a break here before starting up the hill.

Camping on the Ochils
It only took me another 1 mile to get up high enough to find a suitable site for the tent.

It didn't matter too much tonight if the ground was uneven because my inflatable rollmat was holding air again.

890 miles completed.
