30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Clachtoll to Altnaharrie (13)
1163 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 70. Mon 17th Jun 2013 - North of Culkein to Lochinver, 18 miles (1163 miles walked)

Old Man of Stoer
It was a cool start to the day and overcast but the walking conditions were good with a well trampled path up round the Point of Stoer and it's Old Man to the car park at the lighthouse.

A less used path continued on to Balchladich then it was a case of contouring the side of the steep hill to Stoer.

I took to the road here as the next stop was Clachtoll, there is a campsite here and I didn't want to miss passing a shop.

There was no shop here but it was near enough lunch time so I took a break at the picnic site. The sun had come out and it was going to be another hot day.

I found another 4 ticks in my arm, they were so small that I had to use the tick remover to get them out, anyone watching would have thought I was a junkie giving myself a quick fix.

Footpath to Achmelvich
The coast had gotten rocky again but there were a couple of handy footpaths.

The first took me up through the hills past Altanabradhan before dropping back down into Achmelvich.

Dropping down to Achmelvich
I had considered stopping at the campsite here but it was only 13.15 and, more importantly, still nowhere to get any food.

Pigs at Ardroe
A short section of road then I took the second footpath to Baddidarach and Lochinver.

It was a track initially up to a remote cottage then another well trodden path up through the hills again.

I had just started on this path when I came across what I thought was an odd coloured sheep lying next to something rusty. I don't know who got the biggest fright, the pig at seeing me or me when a big brown thing rose up out of a muddy hole?

Looking to Lochinver
There were good views from the top with Suilven looking majestic above Lochinver.

I took another break here just to admire the scenery.

Lochinver
There was no campsite near Lochinver, other than the one I had just passed, so I could only do some shopping and carry on walking.

It is getting more populated now so I'll surely pass more food stores but to be on the safe I stocked up for 3 days.

I wasn't long out of Lochinver when I climbed a hill to find somewhere to camp and the tent was up by 16.30.

A most enjoyable 18 miles.
