Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Altnaharrie to Gairloch (14)
1284 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 79. Fri 12th Jul 2013 - Greenstone Point to Poolewe, 15 miles (1284 miles walked)

The coastline from Gob a' Chuaille
The tent survived in one piece and I set off walking just after 8, there was a bit of sea mist and a fog horn was sounding.

Sheep were on this side of the headland so I had a reasonable trail to follow.

I know it's sad but I can get quite excited when I see a boot print in these pathless areas, not that I ever see anyone else but it is quite heartening.

Looking to Mellon Charles
I was able to stay close to the sea right up to the ruins at Slaggan.

From there I cut inland a bit between 2 hills and stayed high to contour round some cliffs.

I picked up a track which came down the hill into Mellon Charles.

Looking back to Aultbea
It was to be road all the way now and I was still finding it hard going, I actually find the rougher ground easier.

I saw a weasel dash across the road in front of me carrying something in it's mouth.

Poolewe
At Aultbea I stopped to buy some bananas then I joined the main road and after an initial climb it was more or less level walking before the easy descent into Poolewe.

The sun had never really come out but it was still very warm.

The campsite at Poolewe
It was 14.30 and I had only done 15 miles but I had planned to stop here as it has a good campsite, at the end of Loch Ewe.

The sun had come out and the wind picked up enough to keep the midges away so I was able to eat my tea outside on a picnic bench.
