3580 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 234. Mon 3rd Feb 2014 - Port Eynon to Swansea, 21 miles (3580 miles walked)

Church at Oxwich Bay
The transport worked out better than I had thought, I only needed one bus in the morning as I stayed on it when it got to the end of it's route at Rhossili and then returned via Port Eynon.

The weather wasn't too bad either, dry but a bit windy.

I got going at 09.25 on the path through the dunes at Port Eynon and Horton before getting on to the coastline.

Oxwich Bay
After a small detour due to one section of path having been lost through erosion I kept to the cliff edge to Oxwich Point.

From there the footpath climbed up through the wooded slope, staying high for a bit before dropping down to the old church at Oxwich.

Then it was back through the dunes to get to the footbridge over the small river flowing into Oxwich Bay.

The coastline from Nicholaston
Over the bridge and back into the woods at Nicholaston to climb up onto the top of the cliffs at the end of the bay.

It was only a short section on the top of the cliffs before I dropped back down to the next bay.

Stepping Stones at Threecliff Bay
Threecliff Bay was another big sandy bay with a river to cross, this time by concrete stepping stones.

These looked like they would be covered at high tide so it was just as well the tide had been going out.

The path climbed back up through dunes again to get onto the clifftop.

I was on the high ground for a lot longer this time, the going being so much easier, walking on the sandy dune footpaths is much slower and energy sapping.

Flooded Footpath at Pwlldu Bay
I stopped for my second break at the car park in Southgate to finish off my lunch, it was 13.00.

After coming round Pwlldu Head it was back down to Pwlldu Bay, the previous bays had all been very sandy, this one was all pebbles and stones.

It was another footbridge over the small river but the path immediately after the bridge was flooded and impassable.

It was a good job this bay wasn't sandy otherwise I would have had to go up the wooded valley to try to find somewhere to cross. With it being all stoney the river found it's way out to sea underneath the stones leaving a dry crossing.

The coastline to Mumbles Head
A half hour walking on the coastal slopes then it was back down again to Casswell Bay.

This was another sandy bay but with no river to cross and the tide still out I walked on the beach.

It was 14.30 and with 8 miles to the bus station in Swansea it would be touch and go as to whether I would be in time for the 17.05 back to the van at Upper Killay.

Grey Squirrels
The path round to Langland Bay was very easy with it being tarmac or hardcore and I crossed the bay on the beach again.

The rain started just as I got back up on to the path, this was another easy tarmac path which continued right round to Mumbles Head.

It was a promenade walk all the way into Swansea now.

A couple of squirrels were on the grass right next to me and didn't appear to be in any hurry to get away from me.

I made it to the bus station for 17.00 and the bus had just come in, I couldn't have timed it any better.

21 miles today in 7 hours 35 minutes.
