Log No 215. Wed 15th Jan 2014 - Aberporth to Cardigan, 11 miles (3304 miles walked)

The coastline from Aberporth
It was another early start to drive to Cardigan then get the bus back to Aberporth.

Today's walk to Cardigan was only 11 miles so I could have had a lie in but I prefer early starts, as it was I didn't start walking until 09.00.

It had been raining since I got up and I was expecting it to be wet for most of the day.

A Lizard
The headland next to Aberporth was MOD property with no access so I had a short bit of road walking to skirt round it.

I hadn't been back on the coast long when I saw a lizard on the path, I thought it was dead but it moved when I picked it up. I had just met a young couple walking on the path and I think the lizard had been trodden on.

When I was putting it back down on the grass I saw another one right near to it, this one was healthy, I had never seen 2 lizards together before.

The coastline to Mwnt
The rain had stopped after an hour but it looked like it could start again anytime so I had an early pit stop, it's not much fun eating lunch in the rain with no shelter.

The path was what I have come to expect along the Welsh coast, well used and easy to follow.

Mwnt
I went up the small hill at Mwnt, the path cut across to a car park but I wanted a better picture, I wouldn't be taking many in the rain.

Coming round past the small sandy bay a notice at one of the stiles said to take a detour as the path ahead, shown on the map, was only proposed and work hadn't started on it yet. The notices were dated August & November 2013.

It is good to see that they are still trying to improve the route and avoid inland detours. I hope they continue to maintain it too, I wouldn't like it to end up the same as some of the east coast paths which seem to have been abandoned due to erosion.

Coming into Cardigan
The rain had started again before I rejoined the Coast Way near Gwbert and the route was now on the road alongside the estuary of the Afon Teifi, Aberteifi is the Welsh name for Cardigan.

After a bit of road walking it was footpaths through or along the edge of fields into Cardigan. Most of these field paths have been very wet and muddy but I have been impressed with my footwear, both my boots and shoes have been well up to the task and I have rarely had wet feet.

I got into Cardigan for 13.45, nearly 5 hours for the 11 miles but I was on a leisurely pace with the camper waiting for me.

I'm hoping the weather is to improve for a bit now.
