Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Banff to Inverness (7)
652 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 39. Thu 16th May 2013 - Lossiemouth to Kinloss, 19 miles (652 miles walked)

West from Lossiemouth
Getting to Lossiemouth for 9.30 I started walking on the beach, it was a fine day with sunny intervals and a cool northeast breeze.

Using Peter's house as a base means I only need carry a light rucsac, which is a good thing since I did very little walking in my 10 day break.

Today was a mix of sand dunes and rocky cliffs with caves.

Lighthouse & caves near Balgreen
The first 2 hours were sand dunes, then at the end of the golf course it was up onto the cliffs.

This stretch to Hopeman was a well maintained wide path and it meandered through gorse all the way.

Clashach Cove & caves
Coming into Hopeman I passed a row of beach huts and an information board at the harbour said there was a prehistoric reptile footprint which I had apparently just walked past, I didn't bother going back to look for it.

From Hopeman it was a cycleway along the old railway lines to Burghead.

I arrived here at 12.30 and had my lunch.

The harbour at Burghead
Burghead Bay

It looked like I could now walk the 6 miles to Findhorn along the beach of Burghead Bay but I opted for the slightly longer route through the trees. This longer route was the official Moray Coast Trail.

Burghead Bay
It was a good track through the trees and it was surprisingly light and airy.

The path was back at the top of the dunes when it came up against the perimeter fence of Kinloss Air Force.

Once past the base it became slightly harder going as the ground was now mainly dunes & pebbles all the way into Findhorn.

Findhorn
There is a big detour now to get past the wide bay and across the River Findhorn.

I finished the day at Kinloss, it was only 15.40 but I had done 19 miles, it was another mile to Peter's house.
