Log No 222. Wed 22nd Jan 2014 - Broad Haven to Dale, 18 miles (3401 miles walked)

Looking back to Broad Haven
With no public transport, until Thursday, for where I want to go I had either to take the day off or, and perish the thought, take the tent and camp out.

It wasn't a bad forecast for today and it didn't matter about tomorrow because I would be back at the camper so I packed the rucsac with the minimum kit I would need and went to catch the 08.20 bus back to Broad Haven.

Martins Haven
The day didn't start as planned, I found a bus stop in good time for the right bus but by 09.00 I had bever sern the bus.

I had to go to the bus station, where I should have gone all along, and get the next bus which wasn't until 10.20 so I lost 2 hours walking time. I was wanting to do as much as I could to make it easier for tomorrow.

Marloes Sands
It was 10.40 when I got going but the weather was good and there weren't too many streams to cross today.

Westdale Bay
It was all cliff top walking and I met quite a few folk on the path, I didn't see one yesterday.

My rucsac took a long while to get used to, with not having carried a full pack, and this one wasn't anywhere near full, since September I was really feeling the weight.

St Anne's Head
Coming up to the lighthouse at St Anne's Head there was a good sheltered pitch for the tent but it was only 16.20 and I wanted to go on as long as there was enough light.

I had covered the distance I was hoping to but finding a pitch was proving difficult. I finally found a big enough piece of flat ground at 17.20, there was just enough light with the mostly clear sky.

By the time the tent was up it was pretty much dark, I didn't feel like cooking by torch light so I just had snack food and a mug of tea.

18 heavy miles with no rain.
