Coasting Round Britain

30th March 2013 to 12th July 2014
Pwllheli to Aberystwyth (37)
3249 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 211. Sat 11th Jan 2014 - Machynlleth to Borth, 15 miles (3249 miles walked)

Machynlleth
It was an effort to get up again this morning and by the time I had driven to Machynlleth (which, according to the sign, is the ancient capital of Wales) and found somewhere to park it 09.45 before I was ready to start walking.

Rather than walk along the main road to the coast I was going to take an inland route and follow the Wales Coast Path.

Looking back to Machynlleth
There wasn't much difference in the length but it would certainly be far more interesting.

Coming out of Machynlleth the path immediately started climbing up the hill.

Wales Coast Path
The Path occasionally used a minor road but for the most part was on tracks or footpaths.

Looking over the River Dovey
The route was very varied, forests, farmland and hills and although it did go up and down a lot it did try to go round the side of the hills rather than straight over the top.

Looking towards Borth
It was very pleasant walking in the sunshine and very little wind, maybe not quite t-shirt weather but you wouldn't think it was winter.

Wales Coast Path
My aches were not nearly so bad today with just my shins complaining on the descents.

The Path rejoined the main road at Tre'r-ddol, after almost 4 hours of just the wildlife and me in the countryside.

The Path now took a more direct route to Borth but as it had missed out a bit of the coast I went along the B4353 to get to Ynyslas which was a couple of miles north of Borth.

Cleaning up Borth Golf Course

Borth Golf Course was right along the coast and it hadn't escaped the ravages of the storms either with tons of stones having been thrown over the sea wall onto the course.

Borth

There was a big clean up operation in progress with tractors, diggers and members with wheelbarrows removing the stones.

I got into Borth for 15.00 and with 45 minutes to wait for the train I went into a pub for a coffee.

It was a more relaxed 15 miles today leaving me plenty of time to cook enough mince and veg for 3 days.
