Barrow to Fleetwood (32)
2825 out of 5630 miles completed

Log No 184. Wed 20th Nov 2013 - Silverdale to Lancaster, 20 miles (2825 miles walked)

Robin
I was parked in a handy spot, a layby by the river only a 10 minute walk from the railway station and I planned to take the 07.30 train back to Silverdale.

It was wet and windy all through the night with the camper shaking a lot but it didn't disturb me and I was up, refreshed, at 06.00.

I was expecting a poor day of weather but it was dry when I left to get the train and the wind was easing.

Lancashire Coastal Way from Carnforth
It was minor roads to Carnforth then signs for the Lancashire Coastal Way directed me onto the Saltmarsh.

I stayed on this as far as Hest Bank where the promenade started.

Coastline to Morecambe from Hest Bank
The clouds had cleared but with the wind picking up again it was cold.

I called into the Tourist Information in Morecambe to get bus times & routes, Galloway and Cumbria both had a booklet of all the services and timetables in the county but Lancashire doesn't have this so I'll need to keep finding the right timetables as I go along.

The wind was very strong now and one brave kite surfer was really whizzing along and he seemed to be airborne for a long time when he jumped over the waves.

The promenade continued as far as Lower Heysham then I had to leave the coast to get by Heysham Harbour and the Industries.

Coastline to Lower Heysham
I had to head back inland for 6 miles to Lancaster to get over the River Lune so I took to the minor roads again, looping through the village of Middleton.

Lancaster Castle
For the last mile the map showed a footpath along the bank of the river and I expected to finish the walk covered in mud but it turned out to be a cycleway on a tarmac path.

I never had to walk into Lancaster as there was a footpath on the side of the railway bridge and I was straight across onto the cycleway on the otherside of the river and back to the camper.

The walk was a bit tiring today towards the end, I put it down to the early start. 20 miles in 7 hours.

I'm not moving the camper tonight as I'll be walking from here and catching a bus back to it. It will be another early start though to make sure I have enough time to get the 14.00 bus.
