Date: 19/06/2022 Peebles to Old Scone
Having slept in a room in the Rugby Club we didn't have a tent to pack up this morning and we were away for 8:30.
The wind had died down a little bit but it was cool enough to require extra clothing to start with.
There wasn't a lot of climbing to do today and we set off at a steady pace, though it was harder going as the wind was from the NW.
We took the A703 out of Peebles, being a Sunday it was fairly quiet, we had settled into a routine of stopping for a short break about every hour and had our first one at Leadburn before taking the A6094 to Howgate where we took the B7026, bypassing Penicuik, to rejoin the A703 later then it was straight into the centre of Edinburgh.
Our route became a bit more convoluted now as we tried to get to Haymarket to follow the cycleroute to the Forth Road Bridge.
Traffic & roadworks seemed to thwart us and we relied on Norman to try to keep us on track.
This was a long stint and we finally took a break at Dalmeny where could see all 3 bridges.
We crossed over the Forth Road Bridge and took the B981 towards Cowdenbeath then the B917 to Kelty
Nick had arranged to call in to his cousin in Kinross and be given soup & sandwiches for lunch, but it obviously wasn't going to be an early lunch as we still had a long way to go. It was just a case of keeping our heads down and grind our way up the gradients. We finally met up with Rodney at Kelty who must have been wondering what had happened to us, then it was just about 4 miles to go on the B996, finally getting to Kate & Stevens in Kinross after a grueling 52 miles.
A well earned break with a good lunch of homemade soup & sandwiches saw us refreshed and having done a good stint is was an easy 18 miles, continuing on the B996 to Milnathort then on the cycleroute 775 on minor roads which followed the M9 to get to Perth.
We crossed over the River Tay then took the A93 to Old Scone and the campsite at the racecourse where we found Rodney, Janice & Lizzie putting up our tent.
The sun was shining and it was a relaxed end to the day with a takeaway for our meal.
70 miles with 3300 ft of climbing in
The hard climbing will start again tomorrow.
